NATIONAL SOCIETY ACTIVITIES - BELGIUM / NETHERLANDS

The Werkgroep 18e Eeuw (Dutch-Belgian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies) endorses research into all aspects of eighteenth-century history in the Low Countries (Belgium and the Netherlands). The Werkgroep organizes annual conferences and publishes the journal De Achttiende Eeuw. By means of an electronic news letter, we keep our members informed about conferences, calls for papers, guest lectures by foreign experts, and other current developments. Each year, we award the author of the most outstanding MA thesis on a topic concerning eighteenth-century history with a Scriptieprijs. In 2008 the Werkgroep established the annual Burgerhartlezing: Peter Reill delivered a lecture, entitled Rethinking the Enlightenment. Nature and Culture in the High and late Enlightenment. For more information see our website at http://www.18e-eeuw.nl/index.html (partly in English).
